250 MindMaze Books Donated to Local Hospitals
Updated: Aug 13
Over the past year, the Cognitive Science Club has been hard at work developing our MindMaze activity books, brainstorming engaging content and consulting with healthcare professionals to ensure our materials truly support patient well-being.
Professional Guidance
Feedback from medical experts was essential throughout our design process. For example, after a nurse mentioned that many patients do not have their reading glasses at their bedside, we updated our books to a large-print format! Additionally, a local geriatrician shared research on the activities that most support cognitive function, allowing us to refine our puzzles. After months of revisions, we finalized a design that both our team and advising healthcare professionals enthusiastically approved.
Bringing MindMaze to Patients
With a final design ready, our next step was bringing the books to life. Thanks to a local fundraising partnership with Naples Pizza, we printed our first 200 copies and distributed them across four area hospitals.
We would also like to add a special thank you to the staff at Hartford HealthCare (HHC). Their team loved the books and printed an additional 50 copies for their patients!

HHC holds a special place in our story: it is where our Co-President, Emma Koh, was inspired to create the MindMaze project while volunteering with the hospital's book cart program. Read this article to learn more: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1H1gi8u1GHtSOgxHB-nQSWquzyGS1ttIi/view?usp=sharing
Looking Ahead
Moving forward, we are excited to expand our inclusivity by introducing Spanish-language editions of MindMaze to our community. We hope to raise more money in the upcoming school year to print and donate even more of our books to patients!
